The Department of Engineering and Applied Sciences consists of more than 40 faculty staff, and encompasses the majority of the scientific and technological activities of the University of Bergamo. The research topics include several areas of Industrial Engineering (energetics, fluid-dynamics, technical physics, mechatronics, electronics, electrical engineering and material sciences), of Building Engineering (surveying and geomatics, mechanics of materials and structures, buildings component, architectural composition, drawings, conservation of architecture and urban and land planning), and of Chemistry and Physics.
These areas are also included in the Ph.D. program in Engineering and Applied Sciences, purposely named after the Department itself. This Ph.D. program has the purpose of training high-level scientists in the fields of scientific and technological research. Ph.D. students are an essential part of the staff carrying out the research activities in the Department.
The research groups in the Department of Engineering and Applied Sciences can be categorized into three main areas: Technologies for Energy and Environment; Technologies for Conservation, Protection, Recovery and Environmental Sustainability; Microelectronics and Mechatronics. These research fields are well integrated with one another and find a natural finalization in the topics relevant to the Horizon 2020 European funding program. The Department has strong ties with the regional and national industrial environment, with many collaborative projects presently going on.
The Department offers B. Sc. and M. Sc. programs in Building Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. These programs are consistent with the industrial background of the Bergamo region, which up to now has been vastly and satisfactorily employing our students after graduation.
