Eidolon is a research network established in Bergamo in 2008, thanks to the collaboration between Chôros Lab of École Polytechnique Fédérale of Lausanne (Switzerland), the Geomatic Department of Université Lavali> (Québec), Diathesis Cartographic Lab of Bergamo University (Italy) and Historical Sciences Department of Universität Erfurt.
Eidolon aims at contributing to cartographic innovation as well as putting in connection the cartographic language with the main issues of social sciences and the dilemmas of contemporary society by implying its own resources and research attitudes.
Since 2009, Eidolon organizes a bi-annual cartographic exposition. The first one, titled Cartographic Challenges, has taken place in Bergamo. The second one, titled Moving Maps, was organized in Lausanne in 2011. The third one, Cartographie ouverte et villes intélligentes, in Québec in 2013.
