Structural Engineer and Architect, PhD in Structural Engineering at the Politecnico di Milano. Full Professor in Restoration at the School of Engineering of the University of Bergamo; previously Associate professor from 1998 at the Faculty of Architecture of the University Mediterranean of Reggio Calabria and from 2001 to december 2006 at the Faculty of Architecture of the IUAV University of Venice, teaching in Restoration and in "Strengthening of ancient buildings". From 1991 to 1998 Research Associate for Structural Mechanics at the Faculty of Architecture of the Politecnico di Milano, with teaching charges. Professor at the Specialization School in Monument Restoration and member of the Board of the Doctoral school in Conservation of the Politecnico of Milan, former member of the Doctoral School in History and Conservation of the Architecture at the University of Reggio Calabria (until 2001), and of the Doctoral School in "History of Architecture and the city, Arts Sciences, Restoration" of the SSAV in Venice (until 2008). Principal researcher of the Research Unitin the National Research directed by prof. Dezzi Bardeschi (MURST - Cofin98) and by prof. Torsello (PRIN 2003). Scientific coordinator of the line 2.3, in the framework of research program 2004-2006 founded by CO.RI.LA. (COnsorzio RIcerche per la LAguna di Venezia), aimed to "knowledge and diagnosis organization for the conservation of historical buildings in Venice". Author of more than 100 papers in scientific revues or conference proceedings. His main research interest are in the following fields: ? monitoring and control of historical buildings; ? mechanical characterization of traditional building materials (bricks, lime mortars, stone and brick masonry) ? vulnerability and seismic risk evaluation of existing masonry buildings; ? long-term behavior of masonry under high sustained loads, e.g. masonry towers; ? analysis of the mechanical behavior of complex masonry structures, as vaults and domes, by distinct and finite elements methods.
