Peggy Katelh?PhD, MA) was awarded an MA in German as a foreign language and the Magister Artium in Slavic philology, Romance philology, Italian language and literature by the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg (Germany) in 1993. In the same year she qualified to teach Italian, French and Russian at high school level. In 1996/1997, she received the "Luigi Cotteri" prize from the Academy of German-Italian Studies of Meran/Akademie Deutsch-italienischer Studien Meran. In 2004, she obtained a PhD from the University of Potsdam (Germany), with a dissertation on comparative linguistics: "Das fremde Wort im Gespr?. Rededarstellung und Redewiedergabe in italienischen und deutschen Gespr?en" (The Alien Word in Discourse. Reporting Speech and Speech Representation in Italian and German Conversations). From 1993 to 2010, she occupied the post of mother-tongue German teacher and language expert at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Language Centre of the University of Bergamo. She has also held temporary professorships in ?Romance Philology? (AY 2006/2007), ?German Linguistics? (AY 2007/2008) and ?Language and translation ? German? (AY 2009/2010 to 2012/2013) at the University of Potsdam (Germany), the Free University of Bozen/Freie Universit?Bozen/Libera Università of Bolzano and the University of Bergamo. She has taught Italian and German as a foreign language both in state schools and private institutions in Ukraine (1990), Germany (1993) and Italy (1993-2010). Since 2010 she has held a post of research assistant in German Linguistics at the Faculty of Foreign Languages at the University of Turin.
Her main research interests include spoken language and conversational analysis, the linguistic comparison of Italian and German, pragmatics and text linguistics, the teaching of German as L2, foreign language acquisition and learning, German orthography and phonology and varieties of German. Her recent studies have included orthographic acquisition in German (L2/L3), linguistic variety in Eastern Germany and verbal periphrasis in German. She has contributed to the compilation of the Pons W?rbuch Schule und Studium Italienisch-Deutsch. She has appeared regularly as speaker in numerous international conferences. She is a member of the following associations: AIG, GAL, IVG, FaDaF and Ci-dit. She has also been a member of the scientific committees of the Forum Junge Romanistik biennial conferences, the Deutschlektoren in Italien website and the DaF-Werkstatt scientific journal.
