Federica Burini is Associate Professor of Geography at the Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures and Cultures of the University of Bergamo and member of the CST-DiathesisLab at the same University. She is President of the Master Course in Planning and Management of Tourism Systems. She is member of the "Management Board" (Consiglio di Amministrazione) of the University of Bergamo and she is member of the PhD programme "Human, transcultural Studies". She is scientific coordinator with Emanuela Casti of the Project "Urban Nexus, Intelligent Modelling e big data mapping per l'analisi della connettività e della rigenerazione di alcune città europee" in collaboration with EPFL in Lausanne and Anglia Ruskin IT Research Insitute di Cambridge (2016-2019). She also organising coordinator of the project "Centrality of Territories", in collaboration with Universitat de Girona (Spagna), Universidad de Cantabria di Santander (Spagna), Fachhochschule Lubeck - University of Applied Sciences di Lubecca (Germania), Anglia Ruskin University di Cambridge (UK), Haute Ecole Provinciale du Hainaut Condorcet di Charleroi (Belgio), UTC Compiègne (Francia). Her primary research interests are in the area of participatory processes and collaborative mapping in rural and urban contexts, in order to promote a territorial regeneration in a sustainable perspective. In particular, her research has focused on rural areas of Subsaharan Africa and on European rural and urban areas. Among her recent publications, the following may be mentioned: Cartografia partecipativa. Mapping per la governance ambientale e urbana (2016).
